Wednesday, April 29, 2015 – Cotton Futures Move Higher Ahead of US Export Report as US Currency Value Softens

The July contract picked up another 70 points on the day ahead of the weekly US cotton export report, settling at 67.09. The settlement was within the upper one quarter of the trading range. Dec gained another 42 points, settling at 66.27, the net effect leaving the July – Dec spread near strengthened at 82. Gaps remain above the market on the front month continuation chart at 67.88 – 68.00 and 77.80 – 78.00.

The July contract picked up 16 points on the day, settling at 66.39. The settlement was within the upper one half of the trading range. Dec gained 22 points, settling at 65.85, the net effect leaving the July – Dec spread near unchanged at 60. Gaps remain above the market on the front month continuation chart at 67.88 – 68.00 and 77.80 – 78.00.

Monday, April 27, 2015 – Cotton Futures Settle Mixed After Surging on Intraday High

The July contract gapped higher on the opening bell, trading in excess of 100 points higher prior to ultimately giving up 11 points on the day, settling at 66.23. The settlement was within the lower one quarter of the trading range. Dec gained 1 point to settle at 65.63, the net effect leaving the July – Dec spread weakened at 60.

Sunday, April 26, 2015 – Weekly Cotton and Grain Market Report & Forecast

ICE cotton futures surged last week with the July and Dec contracts picking up 305 and 198 points on the week, respectively. Like many others, we opined at this time last week that the market would likely move higher. Not to pat ourselves on the back too much (and invite doom), we have been pretty decent at this weekly directional modeling lately. Our statistical and probability models are working as they should. Futures prices in China and India move higher this week.
