The settlement was within the lower one half of today’s tight trading range, which was completely north of yesterday’s settlement. May gained 29 points, settling at 62.77, the net effect leaving the Mar – May spread near unchanged at (81). Volume slowed in the Mar contract at approximately 11K contracts while Mar OI contracted at approximately 130K contracts.

Today’s results were on par with our model’s directional call for today, but not so with respect to our overall bias. The settlement was within the lower one quarter of the trading range. May lost 120 points, settling at 62.48, the net effect leaving the Mar – May spread near unchanged at (88).
