The daily report for today, Tuesday, Dec 31 will be published by noon tomorrow – Wednesday, Jan 1, 2014.

Mar 14 settled near unchanged today as it lost 2 points on the day on light, but respectable volume. Mar 14 traded within a very tight 89 point range. May 14 picked up 22 points on the day to settle at 84.40, the net effect leaving the Mar 14 – May 14 spread weakened, but still inverted at 24 points. Dec 14 gained 41 points on the day to settle at 78.43; the July 14 – Dec 14 spread weakened slightly to settle at 555 points.

Mar 14 gained 54 points today to settle at 84.66 for a new high settlement for the current uptrend. The settlement was with the upper one half of its 127 point trading range (83.80 – 85.07).

Mar 14 is technically strong, but the recent overbought condition of the front month is beginning to show once again. However, if recent weakness in the US dollar persists, Mar 14 may find difficulty in filling the nearest gap below the market at 82.89 – 83.20.

Yet another strong US export report got the bulls up and running. And, it was a strong report despite what one might read concerning net sales being a bit off of last week’s total; net sales were essentially the same as last week and shipments are increasing.

Mar 14 gapped 31 points higher on the opening bell Thu evening, never recovering any portion of the gap, before finally gaining 123 points on the day to settle at 84.12. ICE cotton futures moved higher on news from China that led many to believe new import quotas would be issued for 2014 and another strong US export report that boasted higher than expected net sales.

The US nearby stocks situation remains tight, and appears likely to grow tighter on demand if not reduced US production and increased US domestic consumption estimates.

US Exports – Week Ending Dec 19, 2013

US net sales of cotton for the week ending Dec 19 were reported at 221K RBS of upland and 8.7K RBs of ELS.
Net sales were higher than expected.
Turkey and China were once again the largest takers.
Shipments of 157K RBs of upland and 11.8K RBs of ELS were also reported.
